simmering chai
a friend gave me homemade modern chai for Christmas, in a weck jar. isn’t it pretty? It’s my first weck jar, and I pause to admire it while I wait for my oatmeal to boil every morning. This is my second hand-mixed chai to receive as a gift. It’s the best looking thing to have in your drawers for cold afternoons. Simmering milk, water, black tea and bits of other things is totally my style.

This looks delicious. I don’t know why it took me so long to discover good, loose leaf tea. My roommate at Taylor was always trying to push it on me, and I would smugly refuse, claiming to be a coffee only person. I was a fool.
PS I just found your “Last Night We Had” blog. I love it! You should keep it up. These are the kind of details I like to know about people’s lives.

oh story my life! acting like, “no thanks, I don’t need your good ideas” and then realizing they were genius.
Me too! I’m always curious what people are really eating. I’m always curious what I managed to feed us over the last few years. I didn’t update over vacation, but I’ll be back at it this week.

I am just now warming up (haha) to tea. The loose leaf ritual is so fun and fancy! Like pour-over coffee but you can take a nap after!
And now thanks to you I know that there are tea recipes. The scones are going to be psyched.
p.s. Thanks too for the new favorite food blog 😉

did you see I gave you a little theme-tribute in the “about” bit? I hope so! otherwise I’m just a theme-thief.
Here’s something to add to the ritual: I have one of those little porcelain tea-pots with a metal mesh basket included. But I was chatting with a salesgirl at Whole Foods and she pointed out that you can buy either disposable or reusable bags to go! Handy.
