Caps for Sale

Isn’t it eerie when you see a picture from a book you read when you were younger but haven’t seen in forever? Just like getting that transporting whiff that makes you feel great and safe or terrible.

Anyone remember this one, Caps for Sale, involving a bunch of rambunctious monkeys making off with the poor salesman’s hats? I have memories of books that I do not even remember the titles of, like one involving a balloon that escapes to balloon world, a heaven-like place where all lost balloons go.  And what about this: we looked at better art on a daily basis when we were five than we do now.

I remember a book written from a cats point of view that I thought was named Greensleeves but have never found it. I love childrens books and recently bought the whole set of Beatrix Potter as I had never read many of them. The stories are priceless!!

Oh, caps for sale! I loved this book.

I still dream of a book I had when I was little – about this really old woman with a bunch of cats, who collected things in boxes. Like boxes of ribbons and receipts and old family pictures. She had a vacant lot next to her house and let a bunch of misfit boys build a tree house in it. The pictures were fabulous, filled with detail, but in the style that was so popular in the late 60’s and early 70’s – line drawings with one or two colors for shading. I’m afraid I’ll never find the book again!
