j. crew’s fall lookbook
We’re in trouble now.
But some of us are still loving the roll out of bed, dress in five minutes summer-living stuff. I did think it was awfully handy of Jenna to mention what exact lipstick color the girls were wearing–Nars Funny Face–because it is so cheery and pink. See the preview & watch the video here.

Saturdays Surf
I really like the blog layout of the surf shop Saturdays Surf in NYC. Their posts give off catchy vibes and the smell of saltwater (in spite of the fact that their shop is in the city). Like these photos from Life Magazine, July 1972. Just look at those girls.
First seen on Valet.

Forage Bow Ties
Can any guy wear a bow tie? Hard to say. Let’s do our best to encourage more of them (and men in capris, while we’re at this hint-hinting thing). These new charmers are from Something’s Hiding in Here, seen first via Oh Joy!

The New York Lifestyle Times
I really enjoyed Gary Shteyngart’s (never heard of him) witty and dodgy answers in the NY Times Magazine this Sunday. Here’s my favorite quote, read the whole thing here.
In your novel, Fox News has become Fox Liberty Ultra.
I’ve seen Fox News a couple of times. It’s a nice transition from the Pravda of yesteryear. It’s a party line without a party. And this newspaper becomes The New York Lifestyle Times. Why would you make an unkind prophecy like that?
It means more Circuits, more fashion and style, and I love that stuff. Don’t get me wrong. The real-estate section really is my favorite section.(I’ll be honest, I read it for the lifestyle.)

Kate Spade seduces (round deux)
Their soon-to-come ad video for Twirl perfume is overwhelmingly charming as well, completely with lovely soundtrack. Isn’t it odd how the truest fulfillment of our luxury dreams come only through ad campaigns these days? Preview right here.
update: I got the Twirl rollerball for Christmas and I love the smell. I can throw it in my purse, and people always seem to notice and remark on how nice it smells.

My First Grill
Hey all, just a little product promotion for you. I ordered this grill from Urban Outfitters a few weeks ago and it is just awesome. Why, I ask myself, did I not spend all of my college years grilling on the porch among the cornfields? What is it about college students that make them unable to think of the most practical applications for their surplus of lazy afternoons and casual friendships??
Anyway, it was $50 and I’ve heard my neighbors muttering with envy several times. I’m not even worried about carting back to Boston. On to crafting marinades and not mixing fish with meat.

Cigarette Marketing
I thought you dear readers might be interested in a little post I wrote over at our Market blog about how frustrating ordering cigarettes has become because of the new rules. You can read it right here.

A Farm Wedding
Like many of you, I spent last weekend at a wedding. Fortunately for me, the wedding was in the Midwest and I got to rent a speedy car to drive speedily around turns and through beautiful fields, all at Midwest prices (Mazda Miata = $15/day). At said wedding, my mom told my aunt that it should really be featured in a magazine. To which my aunt said:
“or maybe just on Rachael’s blog?”
Thank you very much ladies and gentlemen, fame has come a knockin’.
So here are a few photos from this farm wedding, which it truly was in the most relaxed and well-loved way possible. One of those where the wine is serve-yourself, the lemonade is conveniently close to the keg of beer, the bride & groom decide to catch a ride to the hotel with their cousins, and everything relies on weather. Herein is included, of course, a photo of the outdoor bathroom that used a tree stump as its base and my other favorite innovation of theirs: linoleum dance floor (for just the right clickty-clack of the heels).

Pinterest
New visual-cataloging and sharing site, Pinterest (of the likes of fffound). Lovely palette, smoothly organized, snaps your mess of “inspiration, I’m sure I’ll do something with this someday” images right into place. Currently it’s invite only, which is why I’m not sharing already changed my life. But the sight of my computer’s desktop tells me I could really use something like this.
Seen on Oh Joy!
